Late applications are accepted; however, please note that partial or full payment of the program fee may be due at the time of application, based on the payment schedule. A $200 late fee is applied to all application postdated after the deadline.

Programs Available

Semester participants take five courses and can choose from courses in Spanish and courses in English as well. Not only can students take language related courses, but they are able to take classes with other Spanish students 

  • Hispanic Studies Program - For students who are looking for courses in Spanish only.

          These courses are designed for students who wish to spend one semester or more studying in a prestigious program while taking part in the everyday life of a Spanish university—both                  academically and socially. The program offers over 40 different course subjects related to Spanish language, grammar, literature, history, art, political science and other similar disciplines.              At each level, general, specific, and focused courses are available in order to meet the different needs of students.

  • Spanish Plus Program - For students who are looking for a mix of courses in Spanish and English. These programs combine courses from the Hispanic Studies program with specific degree courses, from various disciplines, taught in English. Degree courses may include: Business and Marketing; Art and Architecture; Culture and History; International Relations; European Studies; Literature and Gender studies. The courses are taught in different formats - general, specific, or focused - in order to meet the different needs of students. Of the courses that students select, at least one course must be in Spanish.
  • Spanish Language Preparatory Courses - Students have the option of participating in an optional Spanish Language Preparatory Courses are specially designed to quickly improve proficiency for an additional fee. They are especially useful for those students who wish to integrate easily into their semester program courses which will be taught in Spanish, and also integrate into university life and Madrid culture.

Program Overview

What is included?*

  • Advising and Support - MLSA staff members guide you through the entire study abroad process from pre-departure to post-return.
  • Tuition at Universidad Nebrija - Tuition and administrative fees at the host university are included in the program price. Classes are held at the host university and are taught by local and/or visiting faculty.
  • Official Transcript Issued by Universidad Nebrija​
  • Housing in a Spanish host family in single or double rooms
  • Meals in the host family - Students receive three meals per day
  • Laundry Service
  • Full-Time On-Site MLSA Staff
  • Computer and Internet Access as available at the host university and in the host famiy
  • Excursions - Organized excursions are organized during each term and two to three are included in the program fee to complement the academic component of the student's study abroad experience. The excursions include transportation and guided tours. Additional optional excursions may be offered during each program that may be purchased for an additional cost. Toledo, Salamanca, and Segovia are some examples of cities that are visited.
  • Cultural activities such as walking tours of Madrid, visits to museums, or historical sites, monuments 
  • Insurance - A Blanket Accident and Sickness Policy is included in the price and covers the program participant while abroad for the official on-site period of his or her program. This is not an optional benefit; every ISA participant will be covered by this policy. We recommend that all program participants maintain comprehensive health insurance while abroad. This is particularly important if you have any pre-existing conditions, but is also beneficial if you have an injury or illness while abroad and require further treatment upon your return home. Consult with your current insurance provider to confirm coverage policies while traveling abroad.
  • Airport Pickup - Airport reception for MLSA students who arrive on the designated arrival date and time and at the appropriate airport. 
  • Visa Support - For programs in Spain over 90 days, students will be required to obtain a visa.
  • Pre-departure materials 

  • Orientation on site to Madrid's cultural highlights, transportation system, safety, rules and responsibilities for living in the host family, and more.

  • On-site academic orientation on campus of the university 

  • Staff on call and available 24/7 for emergencies.

  • Access to the libraries and other facilities of the university​

  • Urban Transportation Pass pre-loaded with 30 days of unlimited public transportation on Madrid city buses and "metro" (subway)

  • Airfare (MLSA will make flight arrangements only for groups upon request) 
  • Books (if required)
  • Additional transcripts (one provided)
