MLSA Student Photo and Video Contest

We are constantly searching for MLSA alumni photos and videos to incorporate into our printed materials, web page, social media accounts, and presentations. Our past participants have always been generous in sharing their photos, but this year, we're excited to make the sharing of those mementos a little more exciting by opening up our first ever photo and video contest!

Deadline for submissions:             November 15, 2018

Winners to be announced:             December 15, 2018

Produce a video of your experience abroad! MLSA will choose one winner.

The video contest winner will receive a Fitbit Charge.

Possible themes:

  • MLSA Activities and Excursions
  • Landscapes, panoramic views, and the outdoors
  • Culture, capturing moments in the life of the host country
  • A day in the life of study abroad

There is no minimum or maximum length, though it’s best to keep between 1 - 2 minutes. Videos must be well-produced and edited. Images, font, and music should have a unified theme and convey a clear and coherent message. An exceptional video should evoke emotion in the viewer. Videos must be at least 720p.

Submit a photo of your study abroad experience for a chance to win! All photos can include students, locals and/or friends in the pictures.

Photo Contest Winner Receives a Google Home Mini.

  • Culture, capture street fairs or festivals, holidays, or other cultural activities
  • MLSA activities and/or excursions
  • Capture the participants in action
  • Subject matter that inspires you
  • Nature
  • Architecture
  • Everyday life

The photo submission must be high quality and high resolution, ideally 300 dpi and at lease 6MB in file size and/or at least 1050x1500 pixels.


  • Competition is open to all MLSA participant, past and present. Not open to employees of MLSA.
  • There is no limit to the number of images or videos one person can submit, but only one prize will be awarded per student.
  • Each image or video can only be entered once.
  • The image or video must have been created while studying abroad with MLSA and must be your original photo or video.
  • The student who submits must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all images or videos entered.
  • The video cannot contain any inappropriate behavior, unlawful activity, drinking, nudity or swearing.
  • All music must be used legally. You can create your own music, get written permission from the artist or sample free music from any of these websites:
  • The images and videos submitted will become property of MLSA. The images and videos may be used by MLSA at any time in MLSA marketing materials including but not limited to brochures, flyers, posters, website, social media, and e-mails.
  • By entering you grant MLSA the right to reproduce the image or video for any purpose, at any time.
  • By entering you consent to use of their image, video, name and/or photograph without further compensation.
  • MLSA does not accept any liability for the publication of unlawfully reproduced images or videos.
  • MLSA’s decision on winner(s) is final.


  • Send materials to admissions@mlsa.com by the closing date using “MLSA Video Contest” or “MLSA Photo Contest” in the subject line. Please include the following in the message:
    • Your full name
    • Your contact information including, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address.
    • A brief description of your photo being as specific as possible for example, “Plaza de España, Madrid, Spain”.
    • Your Instagram handle for example @MLSAabroad
    • Video submissions must credit the source of any and all music used.
  • MLSA Video Copyright Permission Agreement - To be completed by anyone submitting a video into the competition.
  • MLSA Video Waiver and Release Form - To be completed by any individuals who appear in your video.
  • You can use Dropbox, Google Drive, YouTube or any other secure video sharing site to send your video.
  • Videos may be recorded from a smartphone, GoPro, or video camera. To win contestants must follow all rules and regulations.
  • Videos must be at least 720p.
  • Images should ideally be a minimum of 300 dpi and at lease 6MB in file size and/or at least 1050x1500 pixels.
